Civic Pioneers Institute Leadership Program Overview

The Mission of the Civic Pioneers Institute Leadership Program is to:

  • Educate and develop regional citizens for greater effectiveness within their profession
  • Engage in civic issues from a personal and organizational perspective
  • Facilitate professional and community networking

Increasing professional and organizational competence is essential to developing sustainable civic engagement. Therefore, the current main focus of the Civic Pioneers Institute is its leadership training program - providing community members with skill development and connectivity throughout an intensive 12-month study.

Each year up to 25 individuals are selected to participate in the CPI Leadership Program through an application process. This program is open to individuals in government, private business, education and non-profit groups. The application process begins in July with the final selection being made in August.

The Leadership Program meets one day a month, starting each September. Along with the monthly sessions, the program features an orientation, a two ½ day weekend retreat, a graduation celebration, and a host of other professional development opportunities. Upon completion of the program, participants become lifelong “Fellows” of the Institute and move forward with skills for greater effectiveness within their professions and communities.

Monthly day sessions consist of stimulating lectures and participatory skills workshops. Each lecture session includes an opportunity to discuss timely issues with elected officials, policy-makers, business executives, community leaders, and stakeholders in regional issues. Not every day session is classroom based. To encourage participation throughout the region, sessions will be scheduled in various locations within Butte, Glenn and Tehama counties.
